Winter mountain craft. ‘Winter walking skills & steeper ground’.

Walking in winter is a natural extension of your summer hill going. On these courses you will be instructed in the techniques of ice axe, crampons use, snow profiling and avalanche avoidance theory and technique, basic rope work and crucially winter navigation skills.

Ascending and descending techniques on steeper ground and in easy gullies or ridges [grade one] will all be covered by your instructor. These courses are based around the Glencoe, Cairngorm or Lochaber areas which have a variety of excellent venues to use depending on prevailing conditions.

Courses can be as long as you want but normally they are 2,3 or 5 days long.

Specialist equipment maybe hired, such as crampons, axes and helmets.

No winter walking experience is necessary, however the days can be demanding so a good level of hill walking fitness is required. The itinerary are based around your needs and aspirations and of course the weather, so no two courses are ever the same. which is how it should be to search out every drop of adventure.
