West and St.Kilda Sea Kayak Expedition |
Following five very successful expeditions to St.Kilda, 3 sea
kayaking and 2 sailing expeditions, the exciting Wild West Expedition
is on again.
The expedition is vessel supported. We will be living on board
a working dive boat, MV. Dundarg. She is 70 feet long and 100
tons. Her skipper John Kinsail is extremely knowledgeable and
with over 15 years of experience in these waters and having been
to St.Kilda many times it is an excellent platform to explore
from. You will be sharing cabins and all food is provided on
board, which is ‘plentiful’ and excellent.
Our aim is to reach St.Kilda as quickly as possible [weather
permitting] and then explore Hirta and the impressive sea stacks
such as Stack Lee and Armin. These are rarely visited by boat,
let alone in sea kayaks, we have successfully landed on St.Kilda
five times. Obviously the weather and conditions will dictate
everything but with a strong paddling crew we have every chance
of having a real adventure! It will be down to us all to decide
on each day’s journey, exploration and content.
Obviously the weather plays a huge role in the trips itinerary,
but we will be visiting other west coast destinations during
the expedition, such as Harris, Skye, North Uist and the small
isles.
This advanced expedition is for those who hold BCU four star
or five star awards in sea kayaking or have proven rough water
experience. If you have any queries on booking a place please
ring us to discuss it. Although not a course there will be qualified
sea kayak coaches, normally at least one level five coach, onboard.
We will plan with the skipper and crew each day’s activities
and look after safety cover whilst you are out on the water.
To reach so many famous sea kayaking destinations in one trip
is a total bonus!
